Journal 1 - Testing Area 1 [Text]
So, now that power's back, I will be gathering as much information as I can from this bunker's terminals and will make it available here in the network. It'll take some time but I believe the more we know about this place, the better chances we have of surviving it, and the outside world should we manage to breach and go outside. I'll keep posting anything new that I find in seperate logs for timeline's sake and maybe I'll load up a master file once I'm done investigating.
[The message stops and after a day, new information can be seen on the post.]
First terminal I've gather info from is the First Testing area... I can't say the findings were pleasant to say the least... but information is information. Read at your discretion.
Subject pool has begun displaying increased agitation following temporary escape of subject 002-03. Prolonged increased baseline sympathetic nervous system activity may be detrimental to future trials. Virus modifications have not accounted for resulting alterations in immunoresponse. I’ve suggested to the Overseer increased monitoring of baseline health of subject pool through routine medical examinations. An excuse of a newfound disease in the vault resulting in the state of subject 002-03 and required testing to control for potential exposure should quiet the pool for a time, though not forever. We must increase testing speed. We cannot allow this branch of research to be prematurely ended due to a fluke.
When I find out who left that door unsealed I’m going to kill them.
Seems the people running the place were keen on experimenting on those stuck here so I guess we should feel lucky we avoided that.... Unless this whole mess is part of their twisted experiments. While virus tests were common under strict suppervision to develop vaccines and countermeasures, the information on this terminal points to less ideal reasons for these tests.
Subject remained coherent until time of death. Cause of death: self-inflicted injury. Levels of aggression increased to unanticipated heights; sedatives remained ineffective. Suggests enhanced resistance to chemical exposure in addition to radiation.
A technical success. Pity there’s no one to share the champagne with.
... I don't think I need to really expound on this entry. Honestly, this place just gets more and more fucked up. But it does make me uncomfortable since it matches virus experiments from fiction and those never ended well... and these idiots succeeded on some points. I really don't want to see what it was they managed to create, or whatever they kept doing.
Fucking project Rescan. He's going to do it. The Overseer has slowly shifted resources towards their division for weeks and now that asshole's finally getting his way.
[corrupted]
I won’t let it happen. I’ll prove this modification works. With or without the Overseer granting us additional subjects.
Dissension amongst the ranks matches up with the mutiny stuff Captain Simmons spoke of and frankly, doesn't surprise me that this mess of a ruined vault was the outcome... Still, this place has more dark secrets that the fancy and happy video failed to mention.
That was all I managed to recover from this terminal. I'll keep working on the others and link up another entry should I find anything of value.

[audio]
[audio]
I'm on my way back to the recreational room to try and gather my thoughts. Though I wouldn't mind company and maybe a trek around the bunker.
[audio]
[He'll suit action to words, and head back down there. There's no undoing the post, and he doesn't have any idea whether the robot who thinks he gives the orders around here can access things posted through the wrist computers anyway, but, well.
Maybe they can talk a bit about keeping opinions on the down-low!
And if they're lucky, there won't be any blowback. It's just that he does not trust luck.]
[audio > action]
[Saya was already on the way so soon enough she was at the rec room and sitting idly about as she waited for Yun. At the very least, the company would be pleasant and Yun was one of the more level headed denizens in the vault so far and she could appreciate that.]
[action]
[His wave was more of a casual flick of the fingers on the way to her booth; he slid in across from her and propped his elbows on the table, frowning.]
Everything okay? You haven't heard anything from the robots yet, have you?
[action]
[Saya tilted her head curiously and raised a brow.]
No, nothing. Should I have?
no subject
[He settles in a bit more comfortably, putting one foot up on the bench. It's not coincidence that it lets him look out over the rec room; the cooking robot's over in the kitchen, but it's all the way on the other side of the place. No need to leave, yet. As long as they keep things at a normal to low volume.]
I don't know what he might consider classified. Plus -- with all that complaining about civilians not following orders, I guarantee he'd hate civilians talking about negative opinions.
[The glance he flashes her way has a glint of real concern in it.]
It might be better to keep that stuff face to face until we're sure it's safe to broadcast.
no subject
[Saya tapped her her chin, looking over at Yun, then at the kitchen and then back at him.]
I debated whether I should have posted it for all, or wether to keep it on the downlow, but here's where I ended up at.
Simmons is already really obnoxiously paranoid as it is. And we have no way of knowing whether he and whoever else might be hiding in this place doesn't have a means to keep tabs on us. Hell, [She points at the pip-boy on her arm and then rests it back down.] These might be rigged with transmitters or the like.
I figured I rather put it out on the open and paint it as 'not going to make the same mistakes as the mutineers prior to us' so we make our ideas known in general without going into specifics.
But, if it does make you uncomfortable, I can change the delivery next time. I just didn't want to get caught saying these same things covertly or in hushed tones since if they did keep tabs on us,that would have seem more suspecious.
no subject
[He casts her a quick grin.]
Though by that standard, I guess he seemed pretty surprised when we broke down the door... so maybe he can't spot anything on the network either!
[Blowing out a breath, he taps his fingers against the tabletop, then meets Saya's gaze directly.] But we don't know what caused the mutiny exactly, or who was on what side, and I'm nervous about criticizing what might turn out to be the side the robot with the gun is on. Until we've got that handled, you might want to keep your broadcasts fact-focused and opinion-light.
But mistakes are lessons! I'd guess we're going to find out whether Simmons does see the broadcasts next time we talk to him.
no subject
It's really worrying you that much?
...
If we're really having that major of trust issues with the wild wild west bot from a 70's army sitcom in America, then maybe the issue is that and not the open communication...
I've actually been thinking about it myself... [Saya sits back and sighs, looking up at the rusty, mold filled ceiling.] I don't know if we should leave them around...
no subject
If we can't get it to respect the authority of someone else here, we're probably going to have to deactivate it sooner or later.
[The information Saya'd uncovered about just how terrible the experimentation had been only reinforced his belief that they didn't want to follow Simmons' orders for any longer than they needed to.]
I want to get as much information and access out of it as we can before that's on the table. Plus, we should make sure we're prepared -- I'd rather no one get shot in the process.
no subject
We're going to need to gather more info from it and...
You know, I think I might just do that. I just need a bit more time, but maybe I can find out more about them. After I finish gathering intel from the terminals anyways.
no subject
You just be careful! I'd hate to have to learn hacking.
[So, don't die.]
no subject
But I do apreciate the concern, it's... welcoming. Especially in a place like this.
no subject
Just don't forget geniuses can make mistakes just like us average folk!
no subject
No one's perfect, no matter how much we'd like to believe it otherwise. I'll do my best to keep a level head.
no subject
[He raises his eyebrows.] You know, from that shit you found on the terminal, I'm really not surprised the locals decided to rebel. All a bunch of experimental subjects, huh...
no subject
cw, mention of test subject suicide
[Of course they would've kept that kind of material from the people they were keeping around as lab rats. Lab rats don't tend to foresee their fates and pick up weapons.]
I wonder how they all ended up dead, though.
Re: cw, mention of test subject suicide
I intentd to find out. There's so much more to this place than they were letting on and I'm not keen on letting this sleep either.
no subject
Probably.
[He half-smiles. It doesn't look too different from Saya's grimace.]
Might as well find out and then we'll know what the odds are that we need to worry about it!
no subject
Or, well, at least we look better.
[She chuckled, trying to make light of their situation, but she didn't even know if she truly believed it herself.]
no subject
Interesting question, there... [He glances away, at the rec room door, at the kitchen; his restless gaze isn't really focusing, because what he's absorbed with is inside his head.]
If our memories got messed with, is it so they can test how people prepared for the worst handle a situation that squashed a bunch of people who expected happy families underground?
no subject
First, they really did plan for all this. These Vault-Tec scientists, though it feels a lot more like one of those evil corporations with their hands in a lot more things than they let the public know.
Secondly though, they really had no clue this mess would happen and everyone who ended up in here just became very convenient lab rats for a multitude of experiments that normally, due to laws, regulations and the like, wouldn't even begin to be allowed, let alone funded.
no subject
I lean towards theory one! Maybe not all of this, but the experiments for sure. Otherwise, I might grant you one or two sadists in the bunch of scientists they grabbed, but not every jackass in a white coat is just waiting for the opportunity to play Dr. Frankenstein.
no subject
While it's a high possibility, I think, for my and others sanity, that theory should be put aside.
But you're right, my first choice is the same. Though, I'll be making a more thorough observation once I finish with the terminals.
no subject
[He still thinks it's the most likely answer, but that doesn't mean it needs to be said outright. It won't make a difference anyway.]
But let me know what you find.
[That said, he's getting to his feet.]
Right now, all we can say for sure is that there were at least a few sadistic assholes in the mix.
no subject
Will do. As soon as I've combed the terminals, I'll set up a meeting.
[Text]
[Actually she's thinking about how this could be weaponized in their favor.]
I wonder other then the unfortunate results trapped in the testing chamber if there's anything else left from their experiments. Perhaps something that can clear up the missing pieces of information there.
I hate not having the full story.
[Text]
I will keep digging for sure, so anything I keep finding, I will continue posting to the network so we can discuss things that may need to be discussed.
[Text]
As for the right here and now, you don't have any plans on becoming our resident mad scientist do you? Because I saw some labcoats laying around that would suit your needs.
[Text]
As for the lab coat, I think I should be fine with this suit. Unless the lab coat offers more protections when dealing with radiation or chemicals... I do plan on learning as much as I can about this place in order to help us all out.
[Text]
I simply thought it would help you get into character. But you might be right about the protection. People underestimate the importance of proper safety regulations.
[A strict rule in the fire nation. Safety railings, gloves and masks. By the book all the way.]
If we've gathered all we can from the computers perhaps we can find more in more in some of the ruined books and papers laying around. Didn't I see a classroom?
[Text]
As far as the terminals, I'm going down through the list and I still have some more to fix up. I'll keep gathering the information from them but once that's done, I'd definitely like to vist the classroom and see what can be found unless you've done it by then.
[Text]
I may be a Princess but I'm not above getting my hands dirty now and again.
[Text]
[Text]
We may be far from home but it's important to keep our cultures with us as we attempt to rebuild humanity, if that is what we're really here for.
[Text]
Rebuilding society, well, that's more doable for sure.
But I will keep it in mind next time we have some down time so I can ask properly.
[voice]
Can we get bullet points next time?
[voice]
For now though, I'm trying to get as much information out there to see if anything rings true with any of our fellow bunker mates and maybe it'll spark some memories or pull up some useful info from them.
no subject
[He has nothing much else to say, but...]
'Subject pool' makes it sound like everyone volunteered for this shit.
no subject
But from experience, that rarely is the case.
They were probably duped into volunteering more than likely. Though one could hope that's not the case...
no subject
Once whatever that experiment was escaped, then they saw what was really going on.
no subject
They all eventually screw up somewhere... Sadly, for these people, it didn't seem like it was soon enough.

It sounds like they're aiming for forced evolution; mutations.

The government tried to paint it as a "killing pandemic", but only the dimwitted fell for that ruse.
